The National Training Center (currently the Ajinomoto National Training Center, hereinafter referred to as Ajinomoto NTC) opened on January 21, 2008 as a training facility aimed at comprehensively improving the international competitive capabilities of Japan's top athletes, based on the Basic Plan for Promoting Sport. In addition, in order to further promote joint use of the facility for Olympic and Paralympic sports, the Indoor Training Center East was completed at the end of June 2019.
Ajinomoto NTC is comprised of the Indoor Training Center West, Indoor Training Center East, track and field training grounds, indoor tennis courts, and the Athlete Village, which are dedicated training facilities for each sport, allowing athletes to carry out intensive and continuous training activities in one location. It is also expected to be used for long-term training projects such as nurturing junior athletes.
The High Performance Sports Center (HPSC), which manages and operates the Ajinomoto NTC, views Olympic and Paralympic sports as a whole and provides the sports medicine and scientific research, sports medicine, science and information support, and advanced scientific training environment that the National Institute of Sports Science (JISS) and the National Training Center (NTC) have to offer, thereby contributing to the strengthening of high-performance sports both in Japan and abroad.
