Kantrida Pools is a new sports and urban complex located right by the shore of the city of Rijeka. built in 2011. The complex is located on the location of the existing open Olympic swimming pool by the sea itself. In addition to five pools of different sizes, a number of accompanying facilities have been designed, so the Kantrida Pools today are not only a place for high-quality preparation and competitions of athletes, but also an attractive place for recreation and entertainment for visitors.
The complex includes five pools (two Olympic pools, a 25 m long pool, a children’s pool as well as a diving pool), and additional facilities such as a health and beauty centre, fitness centres, public garages, coffee bars, restaurants, beach, meeting hall, lecture hall, and squares. The complex is located on the beach itself, which was completely renovated in mid-June 2011. Fitness and wellness are available to athletes and citizens. Visitors can relax in one of the three catering establishments, which offer a beautiful view of the sea, the islands of Krk, Cres and Mali Lošinj, then Učka, Opatija and Lovran. This view is also available from the public square, which is located on top of the garage-parking facility with almost 150 parking spaces.
The complex has won a world bronze medal in the category of aquatic facilities which is assigned by the International Olympic Board and International Association for Sports and Recreational Facilities as well as a special award from the International Paralympics Board for facilities suitable for disabled persons. The complex was designed by the architecture Studio Zoppini.
