The Landessportschule Albstadt is a WLSB (Württembergischer Landessportbund) education, training and sport centre on the Swabian Alb, combining multiple indoor halls, a compact outdoor complex and 140 on-site beds. It hosts federation courses, coaching education and club or school training camps, with several seminar rooms and buffet catering so that groups can live, train and meet on one campus.
Indoors, the school bundles a classic three-court sports hall set, specialist athletics and gymnastics spaces and a strong conditioning area. A 50 × 25 m “Spielhalle” with lino floor is used for artistic cycling and handball, alongside a 45 × 27 m multi-use sports hall with PVC floor that can be divided for volleyball, basketball and handball. A 15 × 10 m mirrored studio inside this hall supports group fitness and classic gymnastics. A separate 46 × 23 m “Trainingshalle” with parquet includes a 70 m indoor sprint straight with jump pit and an indoor pole-vault facility, and is also lined for table tennis and badminton. There is a 21 × 15 m fitness hall used for cycle-ball, fitness and dance, plus a 20 × 10 m gymnastics hall with around 200 m² of judo mats, classical apparatus, a movement/obstacle set-up and slackline.
Aquatic and conditioning work is covered by a 16.6 × 8 m teaching pool with adjustable floor and springboard, approved for swimming, artistic swimming, aquafitness, diving and lifesaving, and a roughly 400 m², three-level conditioning room fitted with free-weight stations, Technogym machines, treadmills, steppers, bikes and rowing ergometers. An 8 m high climbing wall provides about 200 m² of roped routes plus a bouldering section. A sauna and steam bath can be reserved together with the pool area for recovery.
Outdoors the campus focuses on ball sports and simple athletics. There is a 92 × 50 m artificial turf pitch with floodlights and a 40 × 25 m natural grass small-sided field for football. A sand “Beachanlage” (about 40 × 20 m) can be marked as two beach volleyball courts or one beach handball court. A hard basketball court (approx. 15 × 30 m) with streetball/3x3 use and an MTB station with 18 mountain bikes round out the on-site fields. For larger athletics sessions, groups can walk to Stadion Tailfingen “Lichtenbol” with 400 m track roughly 500 m away, while Stadion Ebingen, about 6 km from the school, provides another 400 m track used for cycle training. In winter, groomed cross-country ski tracks around Albstadt give extra endurance options.
Guests are accommodated in several guesthouses: “Schwäbische Alb” and “Hohenzollern” with mainly twin rooms plus a smaller number of singles, all en-suite, and the simpler “Langenwand” house and “Apartment Vogelsang” with mixed single, double and multi-bed rooms and shared facilities. In total the school offers about 140 beds per night, primarily in two-bed rooms, with single occupancy available at a supplement when capacity allows.
Catering is buffet-style with freshly prepared breakfast, lunch and dinner, a strong focus on regional products and vegetarian options at every meal; vegan and allergy-specific menus can be pre-arranged. Lunch is served as a three-course buffet designed so athletes can compose their own mix of protein, carbohydrates, fat and raw vegetables. Additional options such as pretzel breakfasts or coffee-and-cake breaks are available for groups. A cafeteria by the dining hall and learning “islands” serves hot drinks until 22:00, while the “Sportlerklause” bar opens in the evening with soft drinks and alcoholic beverages under youth-protection rules.
For meetings, education and analysis work, six seminar rooms and a library are available. Seminar rooms 1 and 2 (20–30 people) sit above the dining room in the main building; seminar rooms 3 and 4 (about 30 people each) are next to the sports hall and can be combined into one room for up to 80 participants via a movable wall; seminar rooms 5 and 6 (around 20 people each) are located in Gästehaus Hohenzollern. All seminar rooms feature interactive boards and stable Wi-Fi. The fitness hall can be converted into a conference arena for around 100 delegates with full presentation and communication set-up, enabling combined sport and congress formats.
Practical extras include free Wi-Fi across the campus, a leisure room with billiards, darts and table football, bookable access to pool, steam bath and sauna, bike parking and a lockable bike garage, free on-site parking with evening E-car charging, and a staffed reception with night duty. Arrival is typically via Albstadt-Ebingen rail station plus a 25-minute bus ride (lines 45 and 46) directly to the “Landessportschule” stop.
