Cornaredo Sports Centre (Centro sportivo Cornaredo)
Cornaredo Sports Centre is the main municipal sports complex of Lugano, located in the Cornaredo district a few minutes from the city centre. Built around the historic Stadio di Cornaredo, it forms the sporting heart of the city and brings together the main football stadium, training pitches and multi sport areas served by public transport and main access roads.
The complex includes Cornaredo Stadium, a multi purpose football ground with natural grass pitch, athletics track and grandstands, as well as a surrounding sports area with additional natural and synthetic pitches. Here you find a grass training field used by FC Lugano, two full size synthetic football pitches and a synthetic field hockey pitch, together with a skatepark and ancillary open spaces used year round by clubs, schools and local sports associations.
Managed directly by the City of Lugano, Cornaredo Sports Centre is open daily and welcomes more than ten thousand athletes who use its infrastructures for training, matches, athletics sessions and recreational sport. The centre is currently undergoing a redevelopment phase linked to the new Sports and Events Hub (Polo sportivo e degli eventi), but continues to operate as the reference point for football, athletics and field hockey activities in Lugano.
