SportCentrum Kaiserau is a residential training campus in the Kamen district of Methler, run by the Westphalian Football and Athletics Association and used by professional clubs and national teams for camps and education. The complex combines a classic sports school, a more exclusive sports hotel and a dedicated congress centre on one compact site, with all pitches, halls, rooms and meeting spaces linked by very short walking distances. It has hosted teams such as Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and several national sides and served as base camp for Albania during UEFA Euro 2024, which underlines the level of its facilities and organisation.
Rooms in the SportsSchool are functional and geared to squads and youth groups, with 42 single and 62 twin rooms split between Standard and Comfort categories, all with private shower and toilet. The SportsHotel adds 48 larger business category rooms at about 36 square metres, each with separate living and sleeping area, sitting corner, work desk with internet access, rotating flat screen, king size bed, balcony and modern bathroom, which suits senior squads, staff and VIP guests.
Outdoor sports facilities centre on a main stadium pitch with a blue 400 metre tartan track identical in surface to the Berlin Olympic Stadium circuit, plus further football fields. In total there are three natural grass pitches and two full size artificial turf pitches, all within the fenced campus, along with a separate beach soccer field that is popular for lighter sessions and variation during camps. The stadium bowl is visually protected and quiet, which helps top level football and track and field athletes prepare for important games and competitions without distraction.
Indoors, five sports halls cover almost all classic hall sports and winter training needs. The line up consists of a combined handball and football hall, a dedicated basketball hall, a recreational and amateur sports hall, a gymnastics hall marked for volleyball and badminton, and an athletics hall with sprint lanes and technical training zones, supported by modern fitness and weight rooms in the same building cluster. This setup allows football and athletics squads to shift entire sessions indoors in bad weather and gives handball, basketball and other ball sports full size court conditions.
Regeneration is handled in the Fitness and Regeneration area, where guests find massage rooms with electric treatment beds, a sauna, steam bath, whirlpool, plunge pool, sun terrace and a well equipped weight room. Across the campus there are extra leisure options including bowling alleys, billiards, table football, a cafeteria, a beer garden and a beach soccer pitch, which help with team building and downtime between sessions.
Catering is run in house with menus tailored to sports nutrition, served in the Westfalenlounge, Kaiseraulounge and other restaurant spaces that can also be reserved for team evenings. Full board is the standard model for training camps, and the kitchen team is used to adapting meal times and content around double session days, test matches and classroom work. The SportCongressCenter provides the theory side with a rotunda for up to around 100 people in parliamentary seating, an auditorium for up to about 150 and multiple seminar rooms equipped with modern media technology.
Access is straightforward by road and rail. The campus stands on Jakob Koenen Strasse in Kamen and is about a ten minute walk from Kamen Methler railway station on the Dortmund to Hamm line. Dortmund Airport can be reached in roughly 15 to 20 minutes by car, while Paderborn Lippstadt and Münster Osnabrück airports are around one hour away and Düsseldorf Airport about one and a half hours, which keeps transfers manageable for international groups arriving into the Ruhr region.
