Sportschule Schöneck is a residential training and education campus on a 7.5 hectare wooded site high above Karlsruhe on the Turmberg, run by the Badischer Fußballverband and used as a performance and education centre by the Badischer Sportbund. It combines football and multi sport facilities, boarding style accommodation and a full conference and catering setup, and hosts around thirty five thousand guests per year from clubs, federations, schools and companies.
Outdoor and indoor sports infrastructure is compact but varied. The main Siggi Müller Stadium is a 140 by 85 metre hybrid grass pitch with floodlights, supported by the Waldsportplatz natural grass training field and a full size synthetic turf pitch of 102 by 56 metres with LED floodlights and fixed video analysis points, plus a small synthetic turf mini pitch for technical work. Three sports halls cover ball games and winter training: the Fritz Meinzer Hall with 40 by 22 metre synthetic sprung floor, a second 36 by 18 metre hall with parquet and a 60 by 40 metre indoor synthetic turf hall with convertible roof, which is also used for rugby and other outdoor style sports. Additional spaces include an indoor pool about sixteen and two thirds metres long with movable floor from roughly 1.2 to 3.4 metres depth, a mirrored studio for gymnastics and dance, a sand beach complex for volleyball and beach soccer, a judo and wrestling dojo with full mat floor, a fitness room, bowling lanes, a boules and boccia lane and an outdoor table tennis table.
Accommodation is spread over four houses with a total of 177 beds. Arkadenhaus offers twenty one newly renovated rooms with forty one beds and four accessible rooms, some with direct terrace access, while Turmberghaus has twenty three rooms with forty beds, partly with balcony. Waldhaus adds forty seven rooms with seventy five beds directly beside Turmberghaus, and Jugendhaus is aimed at youth groups and teams with five simple rooms holding twenty one beds in two six bed rooms, two four bed rooms and one single, with extra beds possible. All single and double rooms across the houses come with shower and toilet, telephone and wifi, and most also have a television.
Catering focuses on balanced buffets and simple social spaces. A modern main dining hall serves breakfast, lunch and evening buffets with full value and vegetarian options for up to about one hundred eighty guests at a time, and opens onto new sun terraces where coffee, ice cream and cake are served in good weather. In the evening the Turmbergstüble with its fireplace room and outdoor area and the sports bar in Arkadenhaus act as informal meeting points for teams and seminar groups, offering drinks, snacks and a small hot food menu.
For theory work and meetings there are eight named seminar and conference rooms plus a mirrored hall and pavilion. The largest room Bruchsal has one hundred thirty five square metres for up to around one hundred people, while other rooms such as Buchen, Mannheim, Sinsheim and smaller spaces like Mosbach and Tauberbischofsheim cover capacities from roughly sixteen to thirty five participants, all equipped with television or projector, video facilities, flipcharts and pin boards. A renovated Spiegelsaal in the Waldhaus can also be used as a meeting or activity room, and a pavilion beside the synthetic pitch provides a handy spot for workshops or team talks close to the field.
Access is straightforward given the hillside location. Guests arrive by train to Karlsruhe main station or Durlach station, then continue either by taxi or by tram line 1 to the Durlach Turmberg terminus, followed by about fifteen minutes on foot or a short ride on the Turmberg funicular when it is in service. By car, the site is reached from the Karlsruhe Nord motorway exit via the B10 towards Pfinztal, then signed turns into Durlach and up to the sports school, where on site parking is available.
