Sportschule Wedau, Germany

Sports Complex:

Sportschule Wedau is a large three star sports hotel and training centre inside Sportpark Duisburg, combining about four hundred beds, extensive indoor and outdoor sports facilities and a full conference and catering infrastructure that regularly hosts DFB youth tournaments and national and international federations for training camps, seminars and events.

Rooms
Accommodation is arranged mainly in a modern residential tower and adjoining buildings with around four hundred sleeping places, functioning both as Germany’s largest sports school and the largest hotel style property in Duisburg, with single, double, family and multi bed rooms that can host entire squads and big conference groups on site. The hotel is rated three stars and recent refurbishments have produced simple but modern rooms, typically around sixteen square metres, with air conditioning, free Wi Fi, desk, flat screen television, in room safe and private bathroom with shower, while some units add a balcony and lake views over the regatta course. A number of accessible rooms and multi bed rooms with bunk beds are configured for athletes with disabilities and their support staff, and training camp packages usually place players in double or multi bed rooms with coaches and staff in singles.

Sports
The core of the facility is football and ball sports. The campus includes six full size natural grass football pitches of about one hundred by seventy metres, plus one full size artificial turf pitch of the newest generation, one small sided artificial pitch and one mini pitch, alongside the Stadion am Waldhaus with natural grass and a grandstand for about three hundred and twenty seated spectators plus standing areas. Indoor team sports are served by an indoor football hall with parquet floor, a large triple multi purpose hall with a tribune for roughly five hundred spectators, a dedicated futsal hall with modern PU sports floor and further halls used for handball, basketball, volleyball, badminton and other court sports. Combat and technical sports have their own spaces, including a judo hall, a dance sport hall with mirror wall, two gymnastics halls with soft mat or parquet floors and mirrors, and a strength and conditioning area built around an eighty five square metre weight room and additional fitness rooms. Outdoors there is at least one sand beach volleyball court and several tennis courts within the campus, and the sports school is officially recognised as a federal and state performance centre for more than twenty sports, which regularly use the facilities for selection tournaments, national team camps and education programmes.

Beyond the immediate grounds, teams can step straight into the wider Sportpark Duisburg, which surrounds the sports school and includes the Regattabahn rowing and canoe course, the swimming stadium, an ice arena, waterski facility and a high ropes park, all within about five minutes on foot, so that water sports, cross training and team building activities can easily be incorporated into camp schedules.

Dining
Catering is operated in house and is set up to feed large groups. A spacious main dining hall serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, usually buffet style, with sports oriented menus and vegetarian or vegan options when requested, while the kitchen team can design tailored buffets, plated menus, finger food, sandwich platters and coffee and cake breaks for events and seminars. For training camps, agencies routinely book packages that include two or more nights with full board, and the catering team can adapt portions and composition for different age groups and competition phases.

Meetings
Sportschule Wedau also functions as a full scale conference and education centre. In the main meeting tract there are three panorama boardrooms on the fifteenth floor for about twenty to thirty five people, three seminar rooms for twenty to thirty participants, five group rooms for ten to sixteen, six further meeting rooms for eight to fifty six, three lecture halls seating roughly forty to one hundred and two large conference and exhibition rooms that can each host up to about one hundred and ninety nine guests, plus additional classrooms. All meeting rooms can be equipped with modern communication and presentation technology on request and are widely used for DFB courses, national and international federation seminars, corporate off sites, school trips and association congresses, often in combination with overnight stays and on site sports activities.
