The National Academy of Handball NEKA in Balatonboglár is a self contained training camp on the south shore of Lake Balaton, combining a modern multi court indoor arena, a diagnostics and fitness centre and a lakeside residential village with wellness, restaurant and conference facilities on one compact campus. Photos and plans across the brochure, especially on pages 3 to 5 and 10 to 13, show the three court sports hall, outdoor fields, accommodation blocks and wellness zone spread through a green park opening directly to the lake shore.
The NEKA Sports Hall is a 3500 square metre indoor arena with three 20 by 40 metre handball courts laid side by side on high quality Danish sports parquet, separated by movable walls so that three teams can train at once or the space can be opened into one large show court. One court is also lined for volleyball and badminton, and fixed plus mobile stands give seating for 678 spectators, supported by changing rooms, a fitness gym, a VIP room, cafeteria and on request restaurant service for larger events. Outside, a renovated natural grass football pitch is encircled by a 350 metre running track, while a fitness park, proprioception equipment park and strength staircase offer extra options for conditioning sessions in the open air.
The Diagnostic Centre next to the hall focuses on testing, conditioning and recovery in a 1212 square metre complex with a 400 square metre fitness and strength training area equipped with strength machines, workstations, bicycles, treadmills and rowing ergometers. The Global Speed Court system with floor integrated sensors and a four lane indoor running track allow detailed agility and speed testing, while kinesiologists, physiotherapists and strength coaches provide movement therapy, physiotherapy and tailored training plans for elite and amateur squads. A regeneration room fitted with Normatec systems and anti gravity chairs can serve a whole team at once, and two large team changing rooms complete the performance area.
Accommodation is concentrated in NEKA Village, a 2.5 hectare lakeside park with mature trees, a private shoreline and beach, where several buildings provide different comfort levels from apartment style units to quality dormitory rooms. Building C offers ten air conditioned apartments and twelve rooms with a total of fifty beds, each apartment having a living room with fitted kitchen, washing machine, fridge and flat screen TV, as shown in the interior photos on pages 6 and 7. Building H is a newer, hotel like wing with twenty double rooms and two double apartments giving forty four places, many with direct garden and lake views, shared lounges and a kitchenette on the ground floor that can be adapted for meetings, team building or informal catering. Buildings A and B add eighty seven double rooms, accessible singles, double apartments and a few triple rooms for up to one hundred eighty one guests, with Wi Fi across the village and indoor and outdoor parking overseen by a twenty four hour reception.
For meetings, rehabilitation and wellness, NEKA provides a separate conference and rehab building and a dedicated wellness house. The conference room seats up to two hundred people in one space or can be split into three smaller rooms using mobile walls, and comes with sound system, fixed projector, motorised screen and a lobby that works well for standing receptions or buffet service. The rehab area is fitted with pneumatic strength equipment, an antigravity treadmill, a treadmill for standing and gait analysis, an Inbody body composition device and multiple physio and therapy rooms, supporting both long term injury rehabilitation and preventive work. The 410 square metre wellness building houses a jacuzzi, a large Finnish sauna, infrared sauna, steam cabin, jade stone massage beds and a counter current swimming pool, giving teams structured regeneration after training or low impact supplementary sessions, while the panoramic restaurant of about 200 square metres serves up to 142 diners at a time with a kitchen capable of 400 meals, including gluten free, lactose free, vegetarian and sugar free options designed by a dietician and prepared by a master chef.
NEKA regularly hosts Hungarian and international elite teams, including national handball and fencing squads and high level club sides, who benefit from the quiet lakeside setting, compact distances between hall, diagnostics, accommodation and restaurant, and the possibility to add video analysis, classroom work or team building activities into their camp schedule. Testimonials on page 14 from Olympic champion Áron Szilágyi and visiting coaches stress how the change of environment, professional infrastructure and the ability to recreate competition conditions inside the hall help to break the monotony of preparation and support focused high performance work.
